Purpose:

The Research Scientist will be responsible for the investigation and development of new processing methods of human cells, tissues, and cellular based products. The Research Scientist will be responsible for all aspects of their assigned project including the project schedule, design of experiments, process development, and project budget. The Research Scientist will support the Product Development and Marketing teams.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop project deliverables required for the investigation and development of new product processing methods, process improvements of existing products, or characterization of products.
  • Responsible for maintaining the project schedule to ensure timely completion. Track and update project activities on a weekly basis.
  • Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders (ex. medical or scientific collaborators), department staff and other departments to execute department research projects.
  • Support Project Engineers in the scaling of manufacturing processes and resolution of manufacturing issues.
  • Processing of human cells, tissues, and cellular based products (from cadaveric or live donation) as needed.
  • Develop scientific support for the assigned project by conducting an exhaustive review of peer-reviewed literature, execution of experiments, data analysis, and verifying applicable standards & regulations are met.
  • Design and execute scientific experiments. Complete data collection, evaluation, and interpretation of results to generate statistically significant data.
  • Project experiments may include in-vitro or in-vivo assays(in-house or externally sourced).
  • Cell culturing for designed experiments and execution of cellular assays.
  • Develop and implement assay protocols and procedures for new test methods, as necessary.
  • Develop guidelines, operating procedures, forms, protocols, reports, proposals, presentations, verifications, qualifications, and other research project related documents.
  • Operation and maintenance of scientific test equipment required for project related tasks.
  • Assist in the maintenance of general laboratory, materials, and department resources.
  • Establish working relationships with new and existing vendors to source testing, equipment, supplies, materials, or other resources.
  • Implements quality assurance practices in the design and execution of project activities.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of FDA, AATB, and other regulatory requirements, if applicable.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to travel for company meetings within the United States.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to occasionally position self into low or small spaces, such as under a desk.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree required with a scientific discipline (Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry).
  • Doctoral degree in scientific discipline preferred (Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry).
  • At least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • At least 3 years of project management experience.
  • At least 3 years of research and development and/or product development experience.
  • Experience in laboratory practices, academic or commercial.
  • Experience in tissue banking preferred.
